A short walk from the Grand Place in Brussels, the “riche theatre”, to borrow an expression by Jean Cocteau, the Ilot Sacré can be found. Right in the heart of this district, the “CHEZ LEON” restaurant has been established for over 120 years and has become one of the unmissable monuments of old Brussels.
Our restaurant, in its simplicity, the warm and friendly welcome as well as the charming atmosphere, has found favour among the general public and made its mark as a gourmet stop-off. In 1888, Léon Vanlancker set up a restaurant known as “A la Ville d’Anvers” before opening, some years later, and under his own first name, a restaurant that would go on to become a symbol of Belgian cuisine. The years went by and the establishment grew slowly but surely.
Everyone comes to sample one of the house mussels recipes. There are also lobster, fish and meat dishes on the menu but those in the know head straight for the “Moules Marinières Spéciales”, an almost secret recipe, served with fries and, maybe, a delicious LEON beer.
We’ll finish here by thanking you for your visit and wishing you bon appétit.
